Tuesday’s ‘first time’ promises to be a carnival show

Come one, come all! You’re all invited to Tuesday Vargas’ carnival concert! Billed as Habulin Niyo Ako, the show is a first in many ways. This is Tuesday Vargas’ first ever solo concert, where she will display all of her talents. Habulin Niyo Ako may just as well be the first ever carnival concert to hit town. A wacky idea that is as wacky as its star.

Tuesday Vargas is a real performer. With four regular shows on ABS-CBN, a number of movies, and a commercial to boot, you must already know who Tuesday is and what she does. But to pinpoint what it is she does exactly, well that would be like trying to catch a butterfly. Tuesday’s talents seem to flit from one forte to another that you’ll have to catch her in Habulin Niyo Ako, today at the Music Museum.

"Hands on talaga ako dito," the 23-year-old comedienne says. What with seven long years of theater training (she has been a consistent power act in the UP Live A.I.D.S. show), Tuesday proudly shares her involvement in the show’s production design, costume, lighting, the whole nine yards, indeed. Perhaps the crowning glory of this one Tuesday affair is the show’s concept. "Ang theme perya eh, Tuesday muses, "visual impact ng show, bubulaga talaga."

Surprising is something that Tuesday truly is. Though knowledgeable in theater, heavily into film, as well? The girl appears to be sunshine-y and sweet but speak with her and you’ll love her depth and intelligence. She may just be showing the actress in her, but she is one fine singer, too. You think she’s all pop and mainstream alternative, but this girl’s been in the local underground music scene.

While she started out touring barangays and joining singing contests, Tuesday embarked on a musician’s career in high school. She formed and fronted an all-girl band called Milky, and went on to discover the underground scene. Tuesday soon became a self-confessed groupie by 15, and was frequenting joints like Club Dredd and Mayric’s. By the time she turned 19, she filled in the shoes of Myra Ruaro, one of her heroes for Put3ska.

Tuesday was smart enough to finish her studies first. Soon, she found herself doing hosting chores in Klownz, Comfort Room, and Giggles, to name a few. One thing led to another, until she found herself in ABS CBN.

Last October, Tuesday signed a recording contract with EMI PolyEast Records. She is set to release an album this March that is sure to tickle your ears the way her brand of comedy continues to tickle Pinoy funny bones.
