3 newcomers who dare

Puri, produced by ATB-4 Films, will most likely be the trendsetter in this year’s bold-movie scene. It topbills fresh faces in daring scenes: Kuhdet Honasan, Hanni Miller and Isabella Gomez – with male newcomers Jet Sarte and Manny Arcilla as their love interests, along with Allen Dizon.

It is directed by Buboy Tan who handled Ara Mina in Maldita. Tan also wrote the script of Puri (as well as that of Maldita years ago). He is among the low-key director-scriptwriters whose output is well-received by audiences and some film reviewers.

The three young women portray sisters named Purificacion, Purita and Purisima who are brought up conservatively by their parents who expect them to live up to the purity and sanctity of their names–but to no avail. All three grow up to be passionate women more eager to give up their purity than to preserve it for the men who can sanctify their relationship in marriage. As if adding insult to injury, Hanni Miller’s character even falls for a married man (portrayed by Allen, whose wife is played by Stella L).

Kuhdet belongs to the trio of so-called Rebel Beauties once managed by former bold star, Katrina Paula.

Kuhdet’s patience is practically legendary now among aspiring sexy stars. She was once a protégé of Jojo Veloso, and he happened to manage her at the time he decided to chart a political career in his Biliran hometown in Leyte. So he really didn’t have enough time to build up Kuhdet who was still in her early teens and was known by the showbiz name Yani Rose. She is teamed up with Jet Sarte in Puri.

This movie is Isabella’s second, after Sex Scandal. She’s from Urdaneta, Pangasinan and was a Mass Comm student in University of Baguio before she joined the movies. In Puri, she’s paired with Manny Arcilla.

Hanni Miller is a Physical Therapy graduate, a karate blackbelter, and a former lead vocalist of a band. Puri is her second film outing after Silang Mga Rampadora. She’s a protégé of Richard Hinola.

Hanni figures in a love triangle with Allen and Stella L in Puri, which also stars Dexter Doria. The movie opens today during which the lead stars will do a theater tour and pose with moviegoers for souvenir shots – aside from handing out hot souvenir items to lucky moviegoers.
