The 2003 MTV Video Awards nominees

It is Moonman time once again and here are the nominees for the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards. The indomitable Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott put one over pop idol Justin Timberlake and the venerable country music artist Johnny Cash by getting eight nominations including Video of the Year for her video Work It. She was also nominated for Best Female Video, Hip Hop Video, Direction, Special Effects, Art Direction, Editing and Cinematography. Work It is the lead cut from Missy’s Under Construction album.

Close on Missy’s heels comes ex-‘N Sync Justin Timberlake with seven nods, five for his Cry Me A River and two for Rock Your Body. Both songs are from his first solo album Justified. Johnny Cash, who has nearly 50 years experience as a music artist, got six nominations for his video of the song Hurt from his album American IV: The Man Comes Around. Hurt and Justin’s Cry Me a River are also up for the Best Video of the Year trophy. Here is the list.

Most of the leading nominees are also up for trophies in the Professional Categories for the best videos which include Best Direction, Best Choreography, Best Special Effects, Best Art Direction, Best Editing and Best Cinematography. The Moonman trophies will be given out on Thursday, Aug. 28 during ceremonies that will be held at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
