Daniel Bedingfield, new singing idol

Daniel Bedingfield’s story is like a music producer’s dream. He started writing songs when he was only three years old. Today, he has loads and loads of compositions just lying around waiting to be recorded. The best of them comprise the contents of his album Gotta Get Thru This.

Bedingfield was nine when he started performing with his friends and later with his real-life sisters Natasha and Nicola, with whom he played music festivals in Europe.

They got their first synthesizer, paid in monthly installments, when Daniel was 16. This was followed by the much-welcomed computer which was paid off over two years. Daniel worked long hours on them and mastered both songwriting and web designing. So he went into web designing and became so good at it he was able to indulge his love for music, traveling and girls by working only 18 weeks out of one year.

Of course, it also gave him time to go through the beginner’s prerequisite to stardom, knocking on producers’ doors to sell his songs. There were no takers initially. So he made his own CDs and then sold them in record shops. That was how he got his first number one song, Gotta Get Thru This, which oh so easily made it to the top of the UK hit charts as part of a Garage sound compilation. Daniel was singing this song on stage when an A&R from Polydor saw his performance and offered him a recording contract.

Gotta Get Thru This is the title of Bedingfield’s first album and also the closing cut. His second single and another hit is the sexily undulating James Dean. Then amazingly enough, he followed this up with the even bigger hit If You’re Not the One which became his second number one seller. His fourth and latest is I Can’t Read You. These songs and more are in the album.

Doubly amazing still, and proof of his massive talent, is the fact that these songs are as different from one another as day is to night. You know how an artist will go to great lengths to maintain his style and keep some elements of his first hit in all of his future releases? Well, not Bedingfield. Not only do his works vary in genre, he does each one exceptionally well.

Blown It Again has the makings of his fifth single but Daniel has no need for it at the moment. Most artists get happy over one hit, are ready to bask in glory with the second and go into ecstatic adoration with third and the fourth. The 23-year-old Bedingfield already has more. So go and find out if he really has what it takes to excel by getting a copy of the album. I do not think any of you out there would want to miss out on the arrival of this major talent.

Bedingfield, who is already a major star in Europe and Asia, is still waiting for approval from the US charts. This should come any time now, that is, unless the US of A is feeling jealous over the fact that this extraordinary talent was born in New Zealand and grew up in England. There is no need for Bedingfield to worry though. He will surely get that Billboard stamp of approval soon when he becomes impossible to ignore.
