Cynthia Alexander is Katha’s choice

Due to lack of funds, the Katha Music Awards has been unable to hold its regular awards ceremonies these past two years. This does not mean though that members of the Katha Organization of Filipino composers have been remiss in their duty of choosing what they consider the best among the record releases of every year. They did this in 1999 for the sixth Katha Awards and they did it again last year for the seventh Katha Awards.

Katha Chairman Peewee Apostol wrote in last week to inform us of the results of the seventh Katha Awards which covers Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2000. I know that the list comes late but I still do not see any reason to deprive the winners of the chance to let everybody know how their work ranks in the ears of their peers. So here are the choices of the Katha members as the best of the recordings produced in the year 2000.

There is an awards night in sight for the winners of Katha’s eighth edition. Ceremonies will be staged by APT Entertainment, Inc. this November. Let us hope this will be the beginning of better things for the organization. The members are now busy screening for this one and you can expect to get the announcement of the nominees any time now. This Katha Awards will give recognition to outstanding recorded works released from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2001.
