CEBUPEDIA - Clarence Paul Oaminal - The Freeman

Note: This is taken from a report written in 1886 by Fr. Felipe Redondo.

Moalboal, the parish was erected by Diocesan decree of January 20, 1852, through Superior approval of 1841. It is under the patronage of St. John Nepomuceno. It separated from its mother parish Badian. It has an annex which is the town of Alcantara.

Badian, it was erected as a parish on August 26, 1825 under the patronage of St. James the Elder, separating its mother parish Barili. It is situated on an elevated area near the sea in the western coast of the island of Cebu, south of Moalboal. It is bounded on the south by Alegria.

Alegria, it was established as a parish by Diocesan decree of March 4, 1857, through Superior approval of July 3, 1856.

It is under the patronage of St. Francis Javier. It separated from its mother parish Malaboyoc (presently spelled Malabuyoc).

Malaboyoc, it was established as a parish by Diocesan decree of June 16, 1854 through Superior approval of April 16 of the same year. It is under the patronage of St. Nicholas Tolentino.

It separated from its mother house Sambuan (now spelled Samboan). It has three barrios: Inamlang to the north, Looc to the south, and Santiago to the east.

Ginatilan, the parish was established by Diocesan decree of October 5, 1847, through Superior approval of August 9 of the same year. It is under the patronage of St. Gregory the Great. It separated from its mother parish Sambuan.

It is facing the towns of Bais and Amblan (Amlan) in the island of Negros, which is a crossing of four to five hours by sea.

Sambuan, it was established as a parish by Diocesan decree of November 3, 1784, through Superior approval of January 28, 1780. It is under the patronage of St. Michael Archangel. It separated from Tanjay in the island of Negros and what today is now Malaboyoc and Alegria, and from Barili, its mother church.

San Sebastian (note: it is presently a barrio of Samboan), Sambuan has an annex, the new town of San Sebastian. It received the approval of the Superior government of Manila in 1885 to erect a parish.
