MANILA, Philippines- Jennylyn Mercado does comedy for the first time in the 40th Metro Manila Film Festival entry “English Only Please.”

She portrays the role of Tere, a Filipina English teacher who auditions as a letter translator for Julian, who is portrayed by Derek Ramsay.

“Ito na ‘yong pinakamagaan kong role. Ang sarap pala ‘no? ‘Yong hindi ka mag-drama,” Jennylyn said in an interview with philstar.com on Thursday.

The Kapuso actress said she have a lot of similarities with her character since they have the same “expression, kung paano magsalita, gumalaw, gano’n na gano’n. Kasi ‘yong ako kung makikita n’yo sa totoong buhay ganito, simple, T-shirt, loud talaga.”

Aside from doing comedy, this is also Jennylyn’s first time to work with Derek.

She’s happy to have “good rapport” with the actor since they also share the same interests.

“Masaya kasi makulit din siya, tapos gusto niya laging may kinakausap, madaldal, laging nagkukuwentuhan,” she said, laughing.

“Tsaka iba ‘yong rapport namin kasi first day palang magkasundo na talaga kami. Di ko alam paano nangyari, pero first day pa lang binati ko siya na sabog agad, sumabog talaga ‘yong buong set, gano’n.”

Jennylyn said that her doing comedy and working with Derek for the first time are just two of the reasons why the viewers should watch their film.

“Tapos iba ang story kasi interesting siya, kasi kung anong nangyayari sa totoong buhay, kung anong nangyayari sa buhay ng tao makaka-relate mga tao,” she added. “Tsaka full comedy siya, walang fantasy, galing  talaga sa puso.”
