Cebuano Poomsae jins make waves in Manila tikefest

CEBU, Philippines – The Cebu Taekwondo Poomsae Team harvested medals again during the Manny V. Pangilinan (MVP) Best of the Best Competition and National Inter-School Taekwondo Championships held last September 12 and September 20 at Robinsons Place and Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila respectively.

In the MVP Best of the Best competition, the Cebuano jins baged two silver medals.

In senior pair freestyle category, Miguel Calamba and Maegan Bugaringot won silver, while Matthew Bugarin and Lee Robiegayle Navales also got silver in the junior pair Freestyle. It was their first time to join such competition.

While in the National Inter-School tilt, Team Cebu snared four gold, one silver and three bronze medals.

Mary Nichole Maurin and Aidaine Krishia Laxa won golds in the individual junior and cadet category, respectively. Laxa and Maurin together with Navales also clinched gold in the junior team Poomsae, while Crystal de la Torre and Yohann Concepcion handed over the remaining gold in the junior mixed pair.

Navales got silver in junior individual, while Cheyena de la Fuente, Nohea de la Fuente and Shannen Benjie Paran got silver in cadet team poomsae. Paran together with Romeo Reyes III got bronze medal in junior mixed pair.

De la Torre and Concepcion are from Sacred Heart School- Hijas de Jesus, while all others are from the University of San Carlos- North Campus.

The same batches of poomsae artists together with the others also stamped their classes in National Poomsae Taekwondo Championships last July 19 at Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.

In individual poomsae, Xandi Alcantara, Chia Besañes, Nohea de la Fuente, Miguel Lariosa, Jon Alexander Llenes, and Alyssa Llenes won gold medals. Yeviene Alcantara, Moses Bullicer, Laxa, and Navales got silver while Danielle Lois Aparta, Germaine Besañes, Mikaela Calamba, AedenRoffer Cereño, Richelle Marie Ng, Xander Palacpac, Paran and Amanda Renee Villaflor got bronze.

In cadet pair, Alexander Llenes and Alyssa Llenes got gold, Cheyena de la Fuente and Concepcion got silver, while Laxa and Kobe Hayrana got bronze. In the junior pair, Maurin and Clement Tan won gold.

The underdogs, Alexander Llenes, Reyes and Concepcion, who competed with the Philippine team jins in grade school cadet team, won gold. In the same event, De la Torre, Cheyena Dela Fuente and Laxa got bronze.

Danielle Estacio together with Maurin and Navales got silver in junior team, while Maegan Bugarin, Mikaela Calamba and Johnsey Sanchez got silver for the senior team.

The colored belts also grabbed various medals. Palacpac, Nohea de la Fuente and Paran won gold in cadet team. Xandi Alcantara, Mark Bugarin and Kate Guilot won silver in junior team, while Chia Besañes, Germaine Besañes and Gemmei Morales got silver.

In freestyle individualmMale, Tan got the gold medal. Mikaela Calamba and Maurin, in individual female, got the gold and silver medals, in mixed Pair, Maurin and Tan got the gold.

The most highlighted events in this winning were the Team Creative Freestyle and Synchronized Poomsae.

In five consecutive years, the Team Creative Freestyle, performed by Maegan Bugarin, the Calambas, Maurin and Tan, bagged the gold medal and in three consecutive years, the Synchronized Poomsae, which was performed by De la Torre, Concepcion, the De la Fuentes, Laxa, the Lleneses, Paran and Palacpac,  came up with a golden finish.

The Cebu Taekwondo Poomsae jins were working hard for these events to defend and get their titles. They have undergone intensive training coupled with right discipline given by their coach Glenn Lava, himself a world champion in poomsae. These achievements were also made possible with the support of Tony del Prado, the regional coordinator of Philippine Taekwondo Association-7 and the parents. (FREEMAN)
