Casili stays alive in SK finals of Consolacion cagefest

CEBU, Philippines - Barangay Casili lashed back at Jugan in Game 2, 68-64, to forge a rubbermatch in their best-of-three finals series in the SK division of the 2014 Mayor Teresa 'Nene' P. Alegado Fiesta Basketball League at Tayud gym in Consolacion, Cebu. 

Facing no tomorrow after losing in the opener, 63-71, Casili conjured all the strength it could muster to exact vengeance at Jugan and live and fight for another day.

Casili dictated the pace of the match from the start, never looking back after coasting to an early 17-4 lead. Casili protected its 13-point advantage after three quarters, 51-38, but Jugan, behind the efforts of Allamer Ibale, came within striking range,  61-63, with only 51 seconds left to go.

In the return play, Cyril Sabellana completed a 3-point play to give Casili a 66-61 breather, but Bokbok de la Cruz countered with an easy layup to pull Jugan within just three, 63-69, with only nine ticks left in the gameclock.

In an effort to buy time, Jugan quickly fouled Sabellana, who then calmly sank his foul throws with five seconds remaining to seal the deal for Casili.

Sabellana finished with 10 points but spelled big difference for Casili. Boloy Comiso topped the winning side with 14 points followed by Clark Comiso with 11 markers.

De la Cerna paced Jugan with 23 poitns, while Ibale scored 18 in a losing effort.

The month-long tournament, which is among the highlights of Consolacion's annual fiesta celebration in honor of their beloved patron San Narciso, is supported by Mayor Teresa P. Alegado, Vice Mayor Rey Damole and the rest of the Sangguniang Bayan members. Councilor Nilo Ferraren is the sports committee chairman assisted by Boy Tibon and Association of Barangay Council President Marilou P. Casul.

The games are supervised by sports commissioner Paul Alelu Q. Flores, a former varsity of the Far Eastern University during his collegiate days.
