Igimax gets slot to Phl junior team for Asian Duathlon Championships

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - Well-rounded Cebuano athlete Luis Miguel 'Igimax' Maximo snared a slot to Philippine junior elite team that will see action in the Century Tuna ASTC Asian Duathlon Championships set for November 25 in Subic Bay.

Igimax only accompanied his sister Ana Patricia during the SuperTriKids Camp and Competition at Plantation Bay Resort and Spa last week, but national coach Melvin Fausto found out that Igimax also has a potential to excel in duathlon.

After his assessment on Igimax, coach Fausto invited the latter to be part of the lean Phl squad of which the Cebuano talent readily agreed.

Being part of the Phl junior cycling team and a track and field varsity of Ateneo de Manila University, Igimax has to double his time in training so he can live up to expectations although he already showed a lot of promise in this two-in-one sport.

Last May, Igimax made a memorable debut in duathlon following a bronze medal finish in the second leg of the 2012 Powerade Philippine Duathlon Series in Daang Hari, Alabang.

Igimax’s sister Patricia will also be joining the ADC along with the Chiongbian brothers Justin and Yuan. They will strut their wares in the age-group division.

In the elite category of the prestigious ADC, over a hundred athletes from 19 countries have already confirmed their entries including from Japan, China, Korea, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Syria, Iran Brazil, Australia, Great Britain, France, Denmark, Germany, Russia, Canada and New Zealand.

The participants are vying for slots to the 2013 Elite Duathlon World Championships in Cali, Colombia on July 26-27, 2013. (FREEMAN)
