CEBU, Philippines - The Basketball Efficiency and Scientific Training Center (BEST) revealed its calendar of basketball activities for 2012. Now on its 34th year, BEST and Milo have teamed up anew to conduct clinics nationwide to be followed by an inter-school tournament in the SBP (Under-12) and Passerelle (Under-15) divisions.
Ongoing now are the Milo-sponsored BEST basketball clinics that are being held nationwide. The tour of clinics has reached Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Butuan, General Santos and Zamboanga in Mindanao. The Luzon clinics are held in Baguio, Dagupan and Urdaneta Pangasinan, Pampanga, Bataan, Bulacan, Batangas and Lucena. The clinics in Metro Manila spread out to Ateneo de Manila, Amoranto Stadium, AMA University, Oreta Sports Complex, PATTS College in Parañaque, RFM Gym, Malate Catholic School, Xavier School in San Juan, and the Star Mall in Alabang. In the Visayas, the clinics are held in Roxas, Iloilo, Bacolod and Cebu.
The Cebu clinic will be held from May 14 to 19 at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Mango Avenue Campus. Leading the team of coaches is Edwin Barber, the BEST Center’s training director. The clinic will offer Levels 1 to 4 with half-day sessions of 8am-12noon or 1-5pm, depending on level and age.
“Our clinics are all about teaching the basics of basketball. And the added bonus is the discipline, camaraderie and confidence building that takes place during the clinic,” Barber said.
Students of the clinic range from newbies in the sport who are at least nine years old, to those who play in the Milo-backed BEST SBP-Passerelle Twin Tournament, which is held every year. At last year’s clinic, 43 schools were represented including those who came from as far as Surigao, Leyte and Tanjay.
Meanwhile, the Cebu leg of the Milo-sponsored BEST SBP-Passerelle Twin Tournament kicks off in July. The regional finals will be played in Bacolod early November, while the national finals will be held in Roxas City also in November.
