Football roundup QCU survives socceroo in UFL

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines - The Queen City United FC and the Cebu Football Association (CFA) Under-23 players met constrasting fates in their respective assignments in different events yesterday.

The Queen City booters escaped with a 4-3 victory over Team Socceroo in Division 2 of the United Football League (UFL) yesterday at the Turf in Bonifacio Global City.

Queen City posted a 2-1 lead in the first half with goals from Jan Michael Flores and Benedict Arriola.

Socceroo tied the game early in the final half, but the wards of coach Mario Ceniza fought back with savvy against Socceroo, which was reinforced by four Brazilian players.

Arriola scored another goal for Queen City, while Dan Marnel Villarico nailed the winning goal for the Cebu-based squad.

Queen City, thus, stayed at third place overall with 32 points.

CEBU FALLS TO ILOILO IN SUZUKI CUP

Over at Barotac Nuevo in Iloilo, CFA fell prey to Iloilo Football Association (IFA), 2-1, in the Visayas leg of the PFF Suzuki Under-23 Championships.

The long hours of travel after the venue has been changed took its heavy toll on the Cebuanos. Agapito Baclaan was the only Cebuano player to sneak in a goal in the second half.

CFA was without coach Joselito Bono, who is taking charge of another important mission that is to secure gold for Central Visayas in the 2012 Palarong Pambansa in Lingayen, Pangasinan. (FREEMAN)
