Tan gets invite to join Phl Team
CEBU, Philippines - Rochelle Tan, whose string of success in just a one-month span affirmed her status as the new triathlon queen of Cebu, has been invited to form part of the elite Philippine Team.
Phl head coach Melvin Fausto extended the invitation to Tan during the Cebu leg of the Century Tuna National Age-Group Triathlon (NAGT) Series last Sunday at Plantation Bay Resort and Spa.
The 18-year-old Tan ruled her class (16-19) despite a miscommunication with the race marshals.
Earlier, Tan told The FREEMAN that she has no intention of joining the Phl team because she engaged in the grueling three-in-one sport just for fun.
Also, Tan doesn't want to train in Manila as she is studying here in Cebu.
However, Rochelle’s dad Tyrone said in their initial talks with Fausto, her daughter will be allowed to just train here in Cebu.
With that, Rochelle might consider the offer and hopefully get a chance to represent the country in various international competitions.
Even before the offer came though, Rochelle has already qualified to compete in an international event via the XTerra World Championships later this year in Hawaii after she topped the all-Filipino elite women's division during XTerra Philippines Off-Road Championships last March 18 in Liloan. - THE FREEMAN
