CEBU, Philippines - The University of the Visayas (UV) Passerelle team hammered out an 84-78 victory over the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Baby Tigers to clinch a final berth in the 2012 SBP National Under-16 Basketball Championship yesterday at the University of Baguio (UB) gym in Baguio City.
The Baby Lancers of coach Jaymar Canoy, thus, set up a title showdown with the Sacred Heart of Jesus Montessori of Cagayan de Oro City, which stormed into the championship round after kicking out the Bacolod City-based St. John Institute, 120-116.
UV, home of current and former PBA players, was spearheaded by reigning CESAFI Juniors MVP Andres Paul Desiderio, Gerald Fernandez, Sheldon Marlon Andre Gahi, John Nigile King and Prince Liton Canete.
UV and Sacred Heart will figure in a sudden-death duel today, with the winner bringing home a handcrafted trophy plus P30,000 donated by SBP president Manny V. Pangilinan. (FREEMAN)
