Lhuillier vows long-term support for netters

CEBU, Philippines - Former ambassador Philip Lhuillier envisions the PHL Davis Cup team to be like his own company, the Cebuana Lhuillier pawnshop, from being "small-time" to becoming big time one day.

Lhuillier recalled that before Cebuana Lhuillier became one of the country’s leading chain of pawnshops, they had to invest not only in financial aspect but hardwork to be successful.

Lhuillier though commended the Pinoys for going this far in the Davis Cup.To be a Davis Cupper is not an easy one as it is an honor that a tennis player will bring with him even after he retires.

Lhuillier pledges to give support to the team and looks forward to becoming victorious.

“Cebuana Lhuillier will continue to support the team as long as it takes until you reach your goal," said Lhuillier to the players before the actual battle.

The PHL's highest placing in the biggest imen’s team competition in tennis was being in the world group back in 1991.

After that, the PHL squad had a so-so performance until they got into the group 1 of the Asia-Oceania Zone last year.

This time, the Pinoys are on a tough situation again as they might be relegated to group 2 if they lost to Chinese-Taipei. (FREEMAN)
