Uncle's support boosts quest of Dodie Boy Jr.

CEBU, Philippines - Boosted by his uncle, two-division world champion Gerry Peñalosa’s support, undefeated super bantamweight hopeful Dodie Boy Peñalosa Jr. will again try to carve another impressive victory in the main event of “Dugong Kampiyon” boxing card this Saturday night at the Cebu Coliseum.

Son of former two-division world champion Dodie Boy Peñalosa Sr., the younger Peñalosa will try to score his fifth straight knockout victory against Manila-based Jeffrey Jimenez (5-8-2, 3KOs) of Casablanca Gym in a bout scheduled for eight rounds.   

The 20-year-old former amateur standout that made his professional debut in January last year, is fresh from his impressive first round stoppage against Roel Bacquiano last April 2 in the Cebu City Sports Institute Arena.

“Daku gyud kog salig ning bataa (Dodie Boy Jr.) ug akong nakita nga future world champion ni, hangyo nako sa mga Cebuano nga suportahan nato kay kini ang atong umaabot nga garbo sa nasud,” said boxing champion-turned-promoter Gerry Peñalosa in a press conference yesterday at Sports Exchange Bar and Grill along General Maxilom Avenue.

In the supporting bout, undefeated Mindanao bantamweight prospect Marvin Mabait (12-0-2, 7 KOs) will figure in a 10-round contest against veteran Aljun Salugaol (11-15-2, 5 KOs) of Cebu’s Omega Boxing Gym. 

Also featured in Gerrypens Promotions, Inc boxing card is another four rounder bouts.

   The official weigh-in will be held today in the Sports Exchange Bar and Grill.

   Tickets are available at P200 for the ringside, P100 for lower box, while the general admission is free for the public courtesy of of Sarangani Congressman Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao.

The boxing promotion was also made possible with the help of the City Government of Cebu headed by Mayor Michael Rama and GMA TV Network who will televise the fight by GMA NEWS TV 11 on July 3 at 10 am. (FREEMAN)
