Navarro leads CBM's charge in G-League swimfest

CEBU, Philippines -  Anthony Linn Navarro further proved why he made it to the Philippine Youth team as he spearheaded the Cebu Blue Marlins' charge at the start of the 2011 G-League Long Course Swimming Championships yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center yesterday.

Navarro, who qualified for this year’s SEA Age-Group Swimming Championships in Vietnam this June, hauled two golds in the 200m and 50m freestyle events of the boys 13 category.

He clocked in 2:17.14 in the 200m free followed by his teammate Tristan Kirk Ebon with the time of 2:29.88.

A few moments later, Navarro topped the 50m freestyle in 28.01 seconds while Ebon settled for third win 32.03sec.

Anthony Linn’s sister Lyh Ann also had two golds through the girls 12,200m freestyle in 2:33.78 and 50m freestyle in 32.16 seconds.

Michael Ichiro Kong and Karen Mae Indaya contributed two golds apiece through their respective classes in the 200m and 50m freestyle.

The other CBM gold medallists were Noel Cañeda (men’s 18-above 200m frees), Jobert Indaya (boys 9, 50m free), Razel Cabajar (girls 14, 50m freestyle) and Romylin Nina Ignacio (girls 16, 50m freestyle).

So far, CBM collected 11 golds, 13 silvers and nine bronzes out of the 40 events that have been completed.

The Iloilo Sea Warriors are at temporary second with an 8-3-3 gold-silver-bronze medal tally followed by Negros Occidental (7-6-5), Bohol (4-1-5) and Dipolog (4-1-3). (FREEMAN)
