Traya stops Reblinca in Summit boxing tourney

CEBU, Philippines - Consolacion’s Eleno Traya recorded the shortest victory in the 2011 Summit Natural Drinking Water Amateur Boxing Series at the Gaisano Countrymall carpark.

Traya threw a flurry of punches right after the opening bell to stop Toledo’s Rolando Reblinca at 1:37 mark of the opening round in their 60 kgs. duel.

Traya’s teammate Ritchie Montealto was not as lucky as the latter bowed to Maguikay’s lone bet Cherwellan Cantel, 2-1, in the 48 kgs class.

Flores Boxing Gym’s Jaime Tan-awon forced Camotes’ Mardy Moaña to wave off the white flag off surrender at 1:05 of the third round in their 53 kgs. battle.

FBC’s other bets, however, failed in their respective bids. 30 kgs. Ariel Sibay fell prey to Banilad’s Ramel Cañares, 40 kgs. Melmark Dignos lost to Cabancalan’s Polid Banal and 48 kgs. Mart Kevin Soreño yielded to Talamban’s Kevin Jake Cataraja.

Two other Cabancalan fighters, 30 kgs.John Cabrera and 48 kgs. Ferde San Roque met contrasting fates. San Roque won against Florencio Urot’s Christian Bacolod, but Cabrera lost to Mabolo’s Jean Kimber Lopez.

Also, two 60 kgs. entries from Toledo in Rolando Reblinca and Rhiyan Canillas split their matches. Canillas got past University of the Visayas’ Christian Apawan while Reblinca lost to Traya. – (FREEMAN)
