CEBU, Philippines - The Abellana National School (ANS) Pomeroy and San Roque Football Club (SRFC) booters took home championship honors in their respective divisions yesterday at the start of the 1st Sinulog Football Cup at the University of San Carlos-Technological Center (USC-TC) field.
Dan Marnel Villarico powered ANS-Pomeroy to victory after they survived a tightly-contested final duel against equally-tough USC squad, 1-0, to romp off with the boys 17 crown.
“They (ANS) really fought hard during the championship and USC was indeed tough to handle. But it was the teamwork and determination of my players that led them to victory. I always tell them to always give their best in every competition that we will be participating in and they did it,” said ANS coach Francis Ramirez.
SRFC, on the other hand, blanked Sacred Heart-Hijas de Jesus, 7-0, to claim the players 8 title.
The quarterfinal and semifinal matches of the other categories are still being played as of this writing.
The champion in each category will receive trophies and medals, while the runners-up will be awarded with medals.
The two-day tilt is one of the highlights of the month-long Sinulog celebration in honor of the miraculous Holy Child Jesus, Sr. Sto. Niño de Cebu. (FREEMAN)
