3 Cebu judokas bag gold medals in Iloilo tourney

CEBU, Philippines - Three University of Cebu-Cebu City Judo Club bets hauled gold medals during Iloilo's 1st National Individual Invitational Judo Tournament at SM City Iloilo the other weekend.

Rey Carriaga, Hazel Faye Laude and Christy Rama each took the gold medal in their respective weight categories.

Carriaga ruled the men's 60 kgs division by overpowering Carl Villarin of Cagayan de Oro in the final match.

Laude and Rama reigned supreme in the distaff side with Laude fending off Crystal Marcalinas of Iloilo in the 48 kgs class while Rama outclassed Medalla Poras of Passi in the 52-57 kgs category of the all-white division.

The Cebu City bets also went home with five silvers and two bronzes.

Allan Antigua of UC-Cebu City Judo Club and Ariel Albios of USC Gentleway had a silver finishes in the 66 kgs and 73 kgs open belt category, respectively.

Antigua bowed to John Ramon Quin of Zamboanga City while Albios lost to Ian Domalogdog of Cagayan de Oro City.

Their teammates, Johanns Quinnio (USC) and Bryan Canillo (UC-CCJC) settled for bronze medals.

The other silver medalists were Apple Rose Canico of UC-CCJC in the 45-48 kgs, Jenny Porio of USC in the 45 kgs, and Joanna Gilig of UC-CCJC in the the 63-70 kgs.

The other bronze medalists were Odessa Acedillo of USC in the 52 kgs the open belt category and Dennis Chris Odever of UC-CCJC in the 55kgs kid's division. — Marigold P. Lebumfacil (THE FREEMAN)
