2010 MS MOTOSUIT MOTOCROSS SERIES: Abellars top opening leg
CEBU, Philippines - The Abellar siblings Jubenile and Jovanni sent a strong message to their rivals as they topped two of the most prestigious categories during the opening leg of the 2010 MS Motosuit Motocross Series billed as the “Manuel Wagas Cup” last Sunday in Sitio Tuburan, Brgy. Jubay, Liloan.
The Abellars had no other choice than to give their all-out best in the pro open and expert open as they have already been barred from competing in the lower classes because of their superior overall performances in last year’s series.
Jubenile claimed the pro open crown after outsmarting Jon-Jon Adlawan, one of last year’s top performers. Jovanni Abellar settled for third place honors in the category that will be now contested regularly and not only at times when the decorated Glenn Aguilar is in town.
Not wanting to be outdone by his brother, Jovanni made the most out of his experience and sheer guts to lord it over in the expert open. He edged out Jubenile for the top spot while Adlawan came in third this time.
John Flores, on the other hand, made his debut in the intermediate class a memorable one as he clinched the champion’s trophy.
Flores, who previously competed in the novice open production, bested Clark Wagas, son of event host Manuel Wagas, while Rex Barbaso took the third place honors.
While Flores moved up to a higher level, Dongkey Sanchez remained on his comfort zone and as expected ruled both the local and open enduro.
Sanchez was trailed by Bonnie Bustillo and Ray Querol in the local enduro, while Nikko Redulla and Ayen Ledesma occupied the next two spots in the open enduro.
Unlike in the other divisions, any rider who wishes to remain racing in the enduro can stay there as long as he wants.
Sanchez gave it a try in the novice open production but could only settle for second place behind Ryan Querol. Rolly de la Calzada wound up third.
Despite placing only second in the open enduro, Redulla still went home with a champion’s trophy via the beginners open production. Ledesma placed second followed by Martin Nuñez.
Like Sanchez, Jun Enriquez walked away with a pair of crown at hand through the executive A. In the absence of 2008 Rider of the Year awardee Seigfred Ornopia who did not race in the second heat so as not to aggravate his injury, Enriquez motored his way to two titles.
Nonoy Reluya took the second place honors in both categories, while Marte Batulan got the third spot in executive A.
Roscel Gungob emerged as the best in executive C over Alfrez Lagrada and Tata Omuli.
In the pewee bracket, BJ Pepito reigned supreme followed by Andre Gastador and Marianne Yapparcon while the top three winners in the mini class of the event supported by Liloan Mayor Duke Frasco and Castrol Power One were Gonaricci Cuesta, James Mark Mayol and King Macho. (FREEMAN NEWS)
