Ong dominates 7-under class in 1st BTC Speed Stacks Challenge
CEBU, Philippines - Frank Ethan “Hawk” Ong of the Philippine Christian Gospel School (PCGS) dominated the 7-under class in all categories in the second round of the 1st BTC Speed Stacks Challenge.
This developed as Kiefer Zion Sanchez of Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) broke the records to lead in two categories in the 16-under high school division of the 3-month tournament at Banilad Town Centre.
University of San Carlos (USC) North sports stackers also showed they are in contention in the 13-under pack, as PAREF Southcrest School kept its lead at 10-under in this series recognized by the World Sports Stacking Association (WSSA).
Ong swept the 3-3-3, 3-6-2 and cycle-to-10 stacks as he improved his time at 3-3-3 with 4.16 seconds from 7.03, overtaking round one leader and schoolmate Gian Aiden Cabigas, and at 3-6-3 with 5.31 from 5.84 seconds.
10-under
In the 10-under age division, Southcrest stackers continued to lead in the 3-3-3 stacks with Jan Therese Revilles still holding the best time at 3.43 seconds.
While Revilles landed 10th in round two, teammates Yana Erin Flores and Chantelle Marie Sia finished first and second with 3.69 and 3.72 seconds.
PCGS also guarded its lead in 3-6-3 stacks with Hans Manda making it first with 4.30 seconds beating the round one best time of teammate James Kyle Ching by a hairline at 4.31 seconds.
Another teammate Justin Tura finished second at 4.36 seconds with Ching making it at 4.43 seconds.
Maxine Caindec of St. Theresa’s College (STC), earlier reported as a 16-under high school stacker, ruled the cycle stacks at 12.27and broke the round one record at 13.09 seconds.
13-under
Sports stackers from USC-North finished well in round two and shocked round one leaders from Southcrest giving them hope to earn the chance to play in the WSSA World Finals in Denver, Colorado, USA.
Yngwie Flores led in 3-3-3 stacks with 3.02 seconds but failed to beat the best time at 3.00 seconds of Kali Carcel and Lyanna San Pedro.
Flores also led in 3-6-3 stacks and broke the 3.69 best time of San Pedro by a millisecond, followed by teammate Andoni Uybengkee at 3.90 seconds, then San Pedro with 4.09.
Kimberly Kwan of PCGS remained the cycle stacks leader with 10.84 seconds, short of her round one record of 10.65. She is followed by JB Kintanar of USC-North with 11.39 seconds.
16-under
DBTC’s Sanchez surprised everyone when he led the high school stackers at 3-6-3 and cycle stacks as he clocked 4.27 and 12.86 seconds, beating the round one records of 4.53 and 15.94 seconds.
But Clayton Lim of the University of Southern Philippines Foundaton (USPF) guarded his turf in 3-3-3 stacks recording a better time at 3.14 seconds from 3.75 at round one.
Abigail Ann Ambayan of Colegio dela Inmaculada Concepcion (CIC) came close at second with 3.38 seconds. (FREEMAN NEWS)
