CBM bets dominate Dumaguete swimfest

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Blue Marlins of coach Rolando Alvarez stayed on their throne as no overall champion was declared in the 3rd leg of G-League Age-group Short Course Swimming Competition over the weekend at the Silliman University’s Shaw Memorial Swimming Pool in Dumaguete City.

Based on the medals they hauled, the Blue Marlins would have gotten the overall championship with a total of 43 golds, 28 silvers and 19 bronzes followed by Negros Blue Dolphins with 27 golds, 27 silvers and 11 bronzes.

Host Sillliman Red Snappers ended up third with a 20-30-42 gold-silver-bronze medal tally, while Bohol Dolphins were a far fourth with only three silvers and two bronzes.

Among those who figured prominently in CBM's latest success was the Tapang, Navarro and Cañeda siblings.

Asian Learning Center’s Rian Raphael Tapang handed over a gold and a silver, while his brothers Rhys Michael and Renan Gabriel chipped in a total of three gilts.

The Navarros of Cebu Eastern College turned over eight golds courtesy of Anthony II, Lyh Ann and Anthony Linn.

Noel and Trina Cañeda of the University of Cebu also performed remarkably to collect five golds, one silver and one bronze combined.

Another trusted mermaid of UC in Paula Abigail Vega also lived up to expectations by grabbing five golds in her class.

The other UC tankers who did well were Pierre Niño Baguio with four golds, Romylyn Ignacio with three golds, Joyce Huguete with two golds and three silvers, and Bethmay Arellano with two golds and two silvers. Cristine Indaya and Fritz Tamara donated a bronze each, while Justin Daniel Junio debuted in the event with two silvers.

University of Southern Philippines Foundation s Danielle Mae Ballesteros ended up with a gold and two silvers, while Karen May Indaya of Labangon Elementary School and FBC Christian School ’s Michael Ichiro Kong contributed two golds each.

Another Labangon ES student Jobert Indaya bagged a a silver and a bronze. University of San Carlos’ Kyla Tara Ebon and Razer Cabajar snatched a silver each, Kirk Tristan Ebon came up with four silvers, while Aaron Grant Embuscado pocketed a gold and four silvers.

CBM also dominated the boys and girls 4x50m medley relay as well as the 4x50m mixed relay in the Philippine Amateur Swimming Association (PASA)-sanctioned event. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol   (FREEMAN NEWS)
