Crack Legion rules inaugural Governor Gwen Garcia airsoft

-

CEBU, Philippines - The crafty Crack Legion shooters pulled one big surprise as they outgunned 15 other squads to clinch the maiden championship of the Governor Gwen Garcia Airsoft Open Championships the other day at the Prime Orion Properties beside the Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU)-Mandaue Campus.

Crack Legion, who tallied eight points at the end of round 15, bulldozed its way to the top after overpowering Team Airsoft San Carlos (TASC), the lone out-of-town entry from Negros Occidental, and Hammerhead, in the final two rounds.

Special Airsoft Action Team (SAAT) also caught everyone in awe as it settled for second place with 7.5 points.

Early title-favorite Guadalupe Airsoft Team (GAT) could not sustain its momentum as it dropped to third after committing a lot of yellow cards which were deducted from their scores. GAT finished with 7.357 points.

Toledo Airsoft Group (TAG) secured the fourth spot overall with 4.625 point, while West Rasmussen Team (WRT) of Talisay City wound up fifth with 3.625 points.

Completing the top 10 performers were Tango Down with 3.5 points., Hammerhead with 2.375 points, Globus-Petron Alliance with 2.250 points, Philippine Airsoft Club of Mactan (PACMAN) with two points and Alex S. Binghay (ASB) Commando with 1.625 points.

Governor Gwen Garcia, meanwhile, commended the people behind the overwhelming success of the province-wide competition that have its stops on Moalboal, Balamban, San Remigio, Argao and Mandaue.

“I announce that this will be held yearly as I can foresee the impact of what airsoft brings to the different provinces of Cebu,” said Garcia, whose son Paolo is the chief operations officer of the event.

“I’m very happy that there is a secured support for the years to come. We can expect that this sport will grow even to greater heights,” Paolo said.

Special awards were also handed out. ASB Commando was the best in military loadout, Extreme Airsoft Group Enthusiasts (XAGE) took the sportsmanship accolade, while the Special Airsoft Action Team (SAAT) emerged the Best in CQB (Close Quarter Battle).
