Hosts and Del Monte bets rule Cebu Country Club jungolfest
CEBU, Philippines - Players from the host club and visitors from Del Monte Golf Club of Bukidnon ruled the final leg of the Vismin Youth Golf Circuit, the 2009 Cebu Country Club Junior Open Golf Tournament, which closed the other day.
Del Monte players bagged a total of four class titles.
Reymon Jaraula topped class A (15 to 17 years old) for the boys’ division scoring rounds of 75 and 77 for a two-day total of 152. First runner-up honors went to Franz Olea of the host club with 156 (79-77) while second runner-up was Jan-jan Ybañez also of CCC with 157 (79-78).
In the distaff side for class A, CCC’s Abby Olea upstaged Del Monte’s Kristine Leonen in the sudden death playoff to win the title. Both shot rounds of 79 and 82 for a total of 161.
For class B (13 to 14 years old), Lloyd Jefferson Go of CCC won the title shooting rounds of 74 and 76 for a total of 150. First runner-up honors went to Aristeo Mata of Aguinaldo with 153 on rounds of 78 and 75 while second runner-up was Jason Zaragoza of Iloilo with 162 (81-81).
The title for the girls’ class went to May Ann Arbole of Del Monte with 196 (99-97).
In class C (11 to 12 year old), Gen Nagai of CCC bagged the crown for the boys’ division with a total of 161 (78-83). First runner-up was Rogelio Ramir Roque of Del Monte with 163 (82-81) while third place went to Jan Philip Hernandez of Alta Vista with 171 (85-86).
Hernandez made his tournament extra special as he also scored a hole-in-one on the second round on hole No. 5 using an eight-iron and a Slazenger ball.
In the girls’ division, Pamela Mariano of Del Monte bagged the crown with a total score of 169 strokes on rounds of 81 and 88. San Juanico’s Christine Caminade took the runner-up honors with 193 (94-99).
Alta Vista’s Wei-wei Gao topped class D for the boys’ division shooting rounds of 91 and 80 for a total of 171. First runner-up honors went to Dillon Tsekiri of CCC with 189 (97-92) while 2nd runner-up was CCC’s Ryo Haga with 226 (115-111).
In the girls’ division, Lois Kaye Go made it a double for their family as she ran away with the class D title shooting rounds of 80 and 82 for a total of 162. Runner-up honors went to Del Monte’s Rainstar Roque with 188 (98-90).
In class E, Russel Bautista of Del Monte won the title of the boys’ class scoring 79 strokes in the two 9-hole rounds that they played. First runner-up was Wei-Yu Gao of Alta Vista with 77 (36-41) while second runner-up was Back Seung Hyeon of Alta Vista with 87 (46-41).
In the distaff side, Pueblo de Oro’s Sofia Chabon scored 80 strokes on nines of 40 and 40 to win the title. Runner-up honors went to Junia Gabasa of Alta Vista with 81 (43-38).
The first leg of the circuit was hosted by Del Monte while Bacolod hosted the second leg. - THE FREEMAN
