CEBU, Philippines - The Alaska Power Camp basketball clinic will commence today from 9 to 11 am at the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) covered courts in Brgy. Punta Princesa, this city.
Training camp director Roel Gomez, who is also the head coach of the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters, said they are expecting more than 100 aspiring hoopsters aged six to 16 years old to participate in the two-week clinic.
Registration is pegged at P1,200 inclusive of an upper jersey and one Alaska signature basketball.The Alaska Power Camp basketball clinic is an expansion of the Alaska Milk Corporation (AMC) sports development program in Cebu. The company will also sponsor the 1st Alaska Baseball-Softball Cup this June in partnership with the Fastball Sportsventure headed by Jessie Bernad.
Over the past years, the Alaska Power Camp continues to attract young people not just to learn football and basketball, but also baseball and softball.
Gomez, himself was a member of the successful Alaska grandslam team in 1996, said he will utilize the services of all UC coaches to assist him in conducting the drills and scrimmages.
Alaska Milk Vice President for Marketing Blen M. Fernando, for his part, said the AMC supports the grassroots development of team sports that gives Alaska the opportunity to expand the Power Camp program in Cebu.
Fernando added that the AMC truly believes that sports play a vital role in instilling the value of discipline, hardwork, and determination among the youth.
“We are looking forward to really expand our sports development program by bringing Alaska Power Camp to Cebu. We want to nurture the interest of the youth in sports such as basketball, baseball and softball not only in Cebu but also in other areas of the Visayas and Mindanao,” Fernando said. - GGM (THE FREEMAN)
