Oslob gets past Boljoon in Galeos Cup hoopfest

CEBU, Philippines - Oslob breezed past Boljoon, 96-92, to take the solo lead in the Inter-Town division of the Mayor Edsel Galeos Cup Summer Basketball Tournament last Wednesday at the Pres. Diosdado Macapagal Sports and Cultural Center in Argao, Cebu.

 Both teams engaged in a nip-and-tuck battle that resulted into several lead changes and 11 deadlocks, but At-at Ranolo scored on a barrelling drive in the final 25 seconds of the contest that came to be the turning point of Oslob’s victory, 94-92. Dikong Laping later hit two free throws to settle the final outcome.

Ranolo fired 33 points, while John Lastimosa and Momoy Abines chipped in 23 and 16 points, respectively, as Oslob notched its second straight win in as many games. Boljoon, led by Resty Getubig and Gilbert Andujar with 39 points combined, dropped to 1-1.

 In the Inter-Zonal division, the Simple Minds coasted to its second consecutive victory via a 96-71 drubbing of the Upland Tigers, 96-71.

Marvin Lim led Simple Minds with 20 points and Jonel Parantar added 14 points.

Chris Rellin finished with 19 points for the Upland Tigers followed by James Jovera with 15.

On the other hand, the Petron-sponsored Poblacion-C eclipsed the Firebulls by the narrowest of margins, 82-8.

Leo Matarlo powered Poblacion C with 25 points, while Ronnie Salazar submitted 20 points for the Firebulls.
