Garces rules Sinulog bmx showdown

CEBU - Although a bit rusty, Jake Fred Garces still managed to flaunt some exciting bicycle stunts that paved his way to victory in the 9th Sinulog BMX Showdown the other day at the Cebu Grand Hotel.

Garces, one of the former top bmx riders here, combined old but highly-applauded tricks with some new ones to win the judges nod in the freestyle contest.

Little-known Pepin Marquez outsmarted some veteran riders to claim the second place honors, while another former standout Larry Avila settled for third in the Cebu BMX Riders’ Organization (CBRO)-organized event.

Meanwhile, in a very tough competition as to who has the best bike set up, Ramie Tan shone the brightest as he won super stock category of the 3rd Sinulog Moped Street Show last Saturday at the Cebu Grand Hotel.

Tan outclassed Lezandro Alves and Jun Alsado.

Henri Yu, on the other hand, got the best among the modified bikes followed by Erwin Cabatingan and Kenneth Gonzales.

The best costumized bike went to the entry of Team Underbone, while John Lee Loquinario paraded the best painted bike.

On the other hand, Seth Capuras, aside from his being Mr.Friendship to his fellow bikers, topped the slow ride competition, while Oliver Suarez emerged the victor in slalom competition.—Caecent No-ot Magsumbol   (THE FREEMAN)
