CESAFI football tournament resumes today at USC

-

CEBU - After the break to allow the players and officials to pay respects to their dear departed last weekend, the battle for supremacy in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Incorporated (CESAFI) collegiate football tournament resumes this 9 a.m. at the University of San Carlos Technological Campus football field.

The University of Southern Philippines Foundation will try to get back the top ranking when they tackle the University of the Visayas in the opener.

USPF, however, is not expecting an easy game against UV, which struggled with draws and only had a solitary win, by default at that against Cebu Doctor’s University.

Rules mandate that a win by defaults gives a team only a 3-0 score, which affects the standings when goal difference would matter. UV supporters believe that their team could have scored more goals had the opponents showed up.

Today, the University of Cebu is set to face CDU and the teams which got a default victory over CDU are praying that the latter will not again show-up with a complete line-up so it could be “fair” for them.

Current leader USC will try to protect its lead against the defending champion University of San Jose-Recoletos.

USJ-R is also hanging on a limb to earn a ticket to the semifinals and badly needs a win to avoid complications.

If USJ-R will lose the match, they will be tied with UC with points apiece.

The Kicking Jaguars however have a plus five advantage in goal difference, but this can change if CDU shows up and UC will blast them to smithereens. —Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
