Metrosports treats clients to boxing exhibition bouts

CEBU - For a moment, the Metrosports Boxing Club (MSBC) was transformed into a friendly, but highly competitive fight arena as some of its boxer-wanabee clients engaged in a series of exhibition bouts against professional practitioners of the sport the other night.

Billed as “Rise:Birth of A Champion”, the event saw former world title challengers Noel “The Eel” Tuñacao and Wyndel “Braveheart” Janiola clashing in a four-round goodwill encounter that drew a roaring applause from a sizeable crowd at the ringside.

Though no longer decisive as he used to be during his prime,Tuñacao still wowed the spectators with his slippery moves, at times banking on his quickness and agility to elude Janiola’s rapid-fire bombardments. Likewise, Janiola gained a measure of praise for his relentless combinations and solid shots that staggered Tuñacao at some point.

Presented by Metrosports in association with Yamakage Promotions, the show opened with Velmark Dignos of FBC Stable defeating Jeffrey Estella. Not to be outdone, the lone lady ring gladiator Kristine Ong sent a strong message to her male counterparts when she edged out Jayme Dermosa.

The rest who joined the winners’ circle were Michael Angel, Melmark Dignos, Reggis Campus, Rodrick “Cardio King” Garcia, Roemart Sentillas, Ellery Ariate, Rannie Calumba, and Kennth James Yu. FBC’s K-Boy Soreño recorded the shortest bout of the evening when he stopped Ian Aguitan of Phil-Aus Stable in just 71 seconds.

The slambang spectacle was organized by Joseph Flores, department head of MSBC Boxercise, and Arnel Salacao of Yamakage Promotions. The main presentors are Flame It!Burgers and Sausages and Metro Stonerich Corporation in cooperation with Wise Choice Supplements, Rick’s Sales and Services, Maguikay Auto Sales, and Engr. Jun Leonor.
