Golden Lines Shipping reaches final in Vic Enterprises hoop
Golden Lines Shipping of George Uy pulled off a 99-90 upset of Ave Maria Sanctuary Park to claim the first finals slot of the Vic Enterprises Invitational basketball tournament at the CEC gym.
Golden Lines trailed by 12 points, 40-52, but Elvis Labares, Alex Cainglet and Deodato Lunday spearheaded a 28-13 run to wrest the driver’s seat for good.
Labares, a former USP Panther, led Golden Lines with 25 points, while Cainglet and Lunday, both UC products, connived for 28 points.
Freddie Latosa topped Ave Maria with 22 points, while ex-pro Marlon Piodo added 17 markers followed by Bobby Hatague with 15 in a losing cause.
Golden Lines will face next the winner of the knockout match between Unilink Shipping and Ave Maria next week.
Unilink stayed alive by spilling the Boysen Paints, 113-100. Martin Grogard had a game-high 32 points for Unilink, while Cris Matunog and Jay Ramodez scored 21 and 17, respectively, for Boysen.
