Swashbuckling fistic action swings to North tomorrow night through the “Rambulan sa Liloan” boxing spectacle at the Liloan Sports Complex. The card was originally set in Pinamungajan upon the request of event promoter Manny Pacquiao, but the organizers made a sudden change of venue as Pacquiao couldn’t make it to Pinamungajan as he is still in the United States holding negotiations for his next possible fight.
The US-based Michael Fareñas will topbill the show as he slugs it out with Thai Boonmee Sithsrivinitwitthayakom in a non-title bout scheduled for 10 rounds. Although no title is stake, the match is of huge significance for Fareñas as it serves as his final tune-up for his upcoming shot at the interim WBO Oriental featherweight title on September 20 at the Mindanao Civic Center in Tubod, Lanao del Norte.
Fareñas, one of the country’s brightest world title hopefuls, is coming off a 13-fight win streak. Overall, he sports an impressive 21-2-2 record garnished with 18KOs.
In the supporting bouts, former PABA light flyweight champion Marvin “Leyte Bomber” Tampus will mix it up with Jonrey Verano of Valencia, Bukidnon, while Jonathan Baat of Cebu will have his hands full against Daniel Diolan of Zamboanga.
The rest of the matches pit Rodulfo Sumabong vs. Renan Branzuela, Jason Siaton vs. Elmar Francisco, Adonis Aguello vs. Randy Megriños, Jaime Bermisdo vs. Andy Seneres, Jherpaul Valero vs. Christian Dave Baliguat, and Ponce de Leon vs. Aljered Tuñacao. – EBV
