Tabotabo, Lagman enjoy bye in 13th Gullas Cup tennis tilt

After the Siso siblings, two more top junior netters in Vince Marc Tabotabo and Jacob Lagman returned to Cebu enjoying a first round bye at the start of the 13th Gullas Cup at the Cebu Country Club in Brgy. Banilad, this city.

Tabotabo, who just arrived from the US after a successful bid in three events there, will face Carl Cathedral in the second round of 12-under class today, while Lagman, who just got back from a trip in Australia, is also dead set to play against Janil Joy Pintor in the boys14 under class.

Pintor advanced after outsmarting Clyde Dale Bienes, 6-3,6-2.

The other players who also won their first round assignments in the said class were Angelo Ismael Villarante,M arc Dominic Bienes, Dan Eldred Cinco, Francis Elbert Alcantara, Charles Michael Cailing, and Kim Ayuda. Kurt Gerapusco also got a bye.

Villarante silenced Eldan Magallanes, 6-0, 6-2, Bienes enjoyed a walkover win, while Alcantara posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Spencer Sagrado, 6-4, 6-3.

Cailing had to pass through the wringer before disposing off John Harvey Sinculan, 6-4, 4-6, 10-4. In sharp contrast, Ayuda easily dismantled Christian Dave Villareal, 6-0, 6-2.

In the unisex 10-under, Ryle Joseph “RJ” Singson enjoyed a first round bye anew along with Jason Lauron, Charles Joshua Kinaadman, James Royce Alforque, Dan Miguel Sesaldo, Clyde Dujali, Bingbing Buanghug and Jan Godfrey Seno.

The other players who barged into the next round of the 10-under category were Harvey Klein Gilbuena, Zethley Mae Alferez, Denice Kaye Alota, Ranz Gerona,Germane Luarel, Christopher Encarcion, Shyne Villareal and Derek Tabotabo.

Gilbuena went too much for Sheena Camporedondo, 6-0, 6-0, Alferez outsmarted James Ondoy, 7-5, 3-6, 10-8, while Alota pulled off a 6-4,6-2 win against Arthur Craig Pantino.

Gerona defeated Milton John Ruelan, 6-0, 6-1, Laurel kicked away Joanne Ashley Zamora, 6-0, 6-3, Encarnacion scored a  7-5, 6-1 triumph over Harvy Montecillo, Villareal nailed a 6-1, 6-1 win against John Mark Abad, while Tabotabo eked out a with a 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 victory  over Rafael Ardon. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
