ECCP to hold first football festival

- Marchie Jane C. Trangia -

The European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP)-Cebu Chapter will hold its first football festival this Sunday from 8 am to 3 pm at the Cebu International School (CIS) field in Brgy. Talamban, this city.

Sanctioned by the Cebu Football Association (CFA), the one-day tilt is participated in by members and invited non-members of the association.

So far, a total of seven teams have already confirmed their entry namely Detalia Aurora Warriors (DAW), Detalia Aurora Kings (DAK), Tsuneishi (TS), People Support (PS), Fairchild (FC), NCR, and Lear (LR).

Most of the participants are first time players of the sport.

Tournament director and Bright Academy Head Master Neil Montesclaros said the event will adopt the mixed-open division, but it is the discretion of all the teams if they will have lady players with them.

Each team shall be composed of a minimum of eight and a maximum of 10 players. Every player must also be an employee of the company they are joining.

The competition follows a single round robin format in the elimination round, with the top four teams advancing into the semifinals.

However, if a certain team wins all its games in the elimination phase, it will  automatically be crowned as champion.

Trophies and medals are at stake for the winners of the event supported by Sunsport, Magnolia, and Virginia Foods Incorporated. No cash prizes will be given away because ECCP-Cebu branch manager Rosela Paloma said “soccer is a sport that is won with pride.”

Also, the tournament serves as ECCP’s testing ground in organizing a major soccer league next year.
