10 Cebuanos leave for Nike Elite Basketball Camp in Laguna

Ten Cebuanos have been chosen to join the Nike Elite Basketball Camp that starts today and ends on March 19 at the Brent International School in Mamplasan, Laguna.

The Nike Elite Basketball Camp is a by-invitation only, all expense-paid camp for high school students between 14 to 17 years old.

The ten players are Joseph Roma, Rene Sta. Maria, Jasper Diaz and Elmer Cabahug of Sacred Heart School-Jesuit; Jeff Ryan Alviva and Leymund Babad of the University of Cebu; and Chino Uy Jr, Sherwin Co, Kim Jordan Nuñeza and Nilton John Otida of the University of San Carlos North Campus. All the players are members of either their high school’s juniors or midget/pasarelle teams.

The players will join other top prospects from the different parts of the country and will be immersed in a six-day training camp composed of tough drills, lectures and actual games.

The coaching staff is led by Eric Altamirano who is assisted by Alex Compton, Dennis Madrid, and Ralph Rivera. American guest coaches will also handle some of the activities while PBA Coaches Tim Come and Chot Reyes will give talks.

Campers will be given a free pair of Nike shoes along with free jerseys and shorts, and all meals provided for by the camp.

The culminating event will be an all-star game to be showcased on BTV.
