Patience, perseverance and support for each other did wonders for Crisanto Peña and May Edelyn Sinadjan as they bagged the first Valentine’s Adventure Date title after overcoming with different challenges here in Cebu City to Lapu-Lapu and back.
Peña and Sinadjan, who called themselves Team Praning, did not end up nuts doing the challenges at all as their presence of mind and daring character made them the winner of this Valentine date with a twist.
The team finished the race in two hours and 10 seconds after checking in at 10 control points, just a tick of a second ahead of second placers Ben and Cristina Lamparas of Team Ozanam while Team Bb Jacz’ Jose Arnold Codarda and Joy Enesola settled for third with 2:14.
The tandem of Christopher Gimeno and Cricey Lou Jel Nuez of Team Expedition landed fourth in 2:19 while former University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguar, Giovanni Canseco and longtime girlfriend Celeste Opolenticima came out fifth with 2:31 clocking.
Daryl Napane and Precy Pradel ended up in sixth with a time of 2:55.
The contest hit a snag after the ferryboat ride. It took the ferry a long time to sail to Mactan Island allowing all contestants to arrive at the same time, in one group.
Team Bb Jacz had the bad break affecting them the most as they were leading the first five control points only to get stuck at the pier. To correct the matter, the technical committee scrapped the event, to be fair to all competitor sespecially those who got to the pier earlier.
The race included kite flying, wipe vending, snake hugging, balloon blowing, rappelling, lansiaw eating, running, and a lover’s carry. Ian Wilson Espina of Iamik’s Chicken and Beer with Ricky Sevilla of Cebu Mountaineering Alliance Inc. organized the event.—Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
