Cebuano netters start strong in Penang

Two Cebuano junior netters opened their respective title bids with a bang in the Penang Open International Junior Age-Group Tennis Championships played in separate venues yesterday.

Tuburan's pride Vince Marc Tabotato barged into the quarterfinal round of the boys 10-under class after crushing Soramit Musikapong of Thailand, 8-4, at the Penang Sports Club.

Before that, Tabotabo, who is sponsored by Cebu vice governor Greg Sanchez, Accord Bank, Tavos and Tuburan Elementary School, trounced Mohd Aliza Bin Md Sauffi of Ked, 8-4. He will face next Cho Hyungjin of Korea in a semifinal berth.

Sally Mae Siso, on the other hand, also felt like she was having a bye in the girls 12-under category.

This as the Osaka Iridology, Dunlop and University of San Carlos-South Grade School-backed Siso won by default over Thailand's Chanigarn Chainarong at the University Sains Malaysia tennis courts.

Siso, the top seed in her class for winning the event last year, will face next Song Suna of Korea.
