Paref-Springdale and Don Bosco Boys Home marched into the semifinal round after drubbing separate foes in the Red Ribbon U-16 football tournament yesterday at the San Roque field in Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
Paref Springdale finally got a breather after they coasted to a 4-0 whitewash over host team San Roque Football Club.
Last week the match between the two protagonists was stopped 11 minutes to play because of the rain, making the field unfit for play. However, the weather yesterday did not douse the spirit of Springdale as they now inched closer to the finals.
Paref-Springdale proved steadier in their game with Miko Garcia setting the tone in the 26th minute to put his team ahead, before Miguel Arriola stepped in the gas for another goal in the 32nd minute for a 2-0 lead at the half.
Although, San Roque fought hard, it was still not enough to stop Springdale as they found a hole in its defense to pave way for Evan James to convert a goal just two minutes at the bend while Kevin Tecson knocked down its fourth goal for their easy win.
On the other hand, Don Bosco Boys Home notched its first win via a 3-1 rout over Bright Academy in the main game in the battle of winless teams.
Jun Pintuan sparked DBBH's onslaught as he sneaked in sixth minute in the first half, however, Bright Academy managed to even the scores 1-all at the 26th minute behind Thomas Jackson.
But Pintuan made his presence felt again nine minutes after the break to make it 2-1 in their favor, while Kenneth Caballero sealed their win after scoring at the 69th minute.
