Team Cebu City, Blue Marlins grab honors in Iligan swimfest

Team Cebu City for the differently-abled swimmers and the Cebu Blue Marlins Swim Club garnered honors amidst tough opposition in the 14th IASA National Invitational Age Group and Differently-Abled Swim Meet at the Mimars Springway Resort in Timoga, Iligan City.

Both TCC and the Cebu Blue Marlins ended with first runner-up honors which also saw some of its swimmers named as the Most Outstanding Swimmer in their respective classes.

TCC's bets saw four differently-abled swimmers coming out the best in the third edition of the event participated by different swimming clubs from the Visayas and Mindanao area.

Virgilio Sanal led the cast for the Cebu team as he won eight gold medals under the S-8 classification for orthopedically-handicapped individuals.

Playing coach Rolando Alvarez also came out the best in the S-10 class after hauling six golds even as he has to attend to his wards both in the TCC and the Blue Marlins.

Noel Gonzales, on the other hand, was the winningest in the S-7 with six golds and two silvers. Hilario Romano, who is under the blind category's S-11 class, had five golds and a silver. On the other hand, the Cebu Blue Marlins grabbed the first-runner up trophy Zamboanga City Amateur Swimming Association.

CBM also ruled the male division and Zamboanga in the distaff side. Lyh Ann Navarro, Diane Caneda and Andrew Dequina added up spice for CBM with their Most Outstanding athlete award.

Navarro, from the FBC Christian School, had three golds and two silvers in the 6-under class. University of Cebu's Caneda, for her part, swam for 10 golds as Dequina finished off with seven golds and three silvers.
