Detainee escapes from police escorts
CEBU, Philippines — A detainee of Cebu City Police Station 11 escaped from his police escorts on their way to the police station from a medical examination while boarding the patrol car yesterday morning.
Authorities identified the detainee as Alwin Cereño, 32, a resident of Sitio Kawayan, Barangay Quiot, Cebu City who was arrested for illegal possession of explosives and firearms.
Police Lt. Colonel Wilbert Parilla, deputy director for operations of Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said they are currently conducting a manhunt operation to locate Cereño after he escaped from the hands of police escorts around 8 a.m. yesterday.
According to Parilla, aside from conducting a manhunt operation to retrieve the said accused, they are also investigating the possible lapses that the police escorts might have committed.
"But as of now we focus on the manhunt operation and later on we will conduct also investigation and will file appropriate charges sa atong mga personnel kung adunay pagpabaya sa ilang trabaho," said Parilla.
Parilla said that the police escorts initially reported that Cereño was able to hit the driver with his foot from the back of the police mobile.
He said the driver immediately halted and the detainee quickly jumped off from the mobile and ran away with handcuffs.
The administrative investigation has been initiated to determine if there were any lapses with the police escorts after failing to secure the detainee.
Parilla however said there is no timeframe given to the station to retrieve the suspect but they are directed to recover as soon as possible. — GMR (FREEMAN)
