Minglanilla police chief told: Strengthen work vs gambling

CEBU, Philippines - Provincial Police Director, Senior Superintendent Noel Gillamac, has ordered the chief of the Minglanilla police to step up following complaints that illegal gambling activities are getting rampant in the town.

Gillamac said he received a letter from the town officials in which they expressed concern over the alleged proliferation of illegal gambling both in Minglanilla and Talisay.

Gillamac said that even before he received the complaint, he already directed the chiefs of police in Minglanilla and Talisay to intensify their campaign against illegal gambling.

Superintendent Germano Mallari, chief of the Talisay Police, admitted that the priority is on illegal drugs but said the city police has arrested suspects and even closed illegal swertres outlets following Gillamac’s directive.

The Freeman’s sister publication, Banat News, reported yesterday that barangay captains from Minglanilla are also joining the call for intensified police action against illegal gambling in their barangays.

Senior Inspector Fraco Rodulf Oriol said he has received reports about the illegal gambling activities and assured the barangay captains he will act on the information.

Gillamac said, however, that barangay captains should not leave the campaign against illegal drugs entirely to the police because the barangay captains are the ones on the ground and should know who among the residents in their respective barangays are involved.

Superintendent Rodolfo Albotra, chief of the Provincial Intelligence Branch, said they are monitoring the efforts of the different stations to curb the proliferation of the illegal numbers game.

“Continuous man among effort sa illegal numbers game…naa tay accounting in the accom-plishments sa stations but the illegal drugs is giving more headaches than illegal numbers game,” Albotra said.

Meanwhile, PIB elements arrested a suspected drug pusher who is in the list of Top 10 drug personalities in the region at past 5 p.m. in Barangay Pulangbato, Cebu City last Saturday.

Ronald Tumulak was arrested at a cockfight.

Albotra said they have been tracing Tumulak’s whereabouts after the court issued a warrant of arrest against him.

Albotra said Tumulak was a level two drug pusher who could dispose easily of at least 300 and up to 500 grams of shabu weekly.

He said Tumulak tried to escape but failed to do so because he was cornered. No illegal drugs were recovered from him but his mobile phone will be subjected to forensics examination.  (FREEMAN)
