PAGASA: “Warmer days ahead”
CEBU, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has officially announced the end of Amihan or the Northeast Monsoon in most parts of the country, ushering in the start of the dry season.
"Warmer days ahead," PAGASA stated, while cautioning that occasional thunderstorms may still occur.
In its latest advisory signed by Administrator Nathaniel Servando, PAGASA explained the shift in wind direction as a key indicator of the seasonal change.
"The shift of wind direction from northeasterly to easterly due to the establishment of the High Pressure Area (HPA) over the Northwestern Pacific signifies the termination of the Northeast Monsoon over most parts of the country and the start of the dry season," the advisory read.
Despite the seasonal transition, PAGASA noted that extreme Northern Luzon may continue to experience occasional northeasterly winds.
"The day-to-day weather across the country will now gradually become warmer, though isolated thunderstorms are also likely to occur," the weather bureau added.
With the onset of the dry season, the public has been advised to take precautionary measures to minimize heat stress and to optimize water usage for personal and domestic needs.
In addition to urging water conservation, PAGASA encouraged the public and relevant agencies to stay updated on weather developments.
DOST-PAGASA assured the public that it will continue to closely monitor the country’s weather and climatic conditions, as well as their potential impacts.
Meanwhile, in Cebu City, the City’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) has already implemented preparatory measures in anticipation of the dry season.
Firetrucks and personnel have been pre-positioned in two strategic locations in the mountain barangays. Additionally, training programs for barangay responders are set to commence to help prevent bush and forest fires, even before the city government formally declares a state of preparedness for the dry season. — (FREEMAN)
