Wanted NPA commander yields
CEBU, Philippines — An alleged commander of the New People’s Army (NPA) from Sitio Kakha, Barangay Talalak, Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental, voluntarily surrendered to authorities at the Abellana Police Station 2 of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) on Wednesday, March 25, 2025.
The suspect, identified as Misael Atadero dela Cruz, also known by multiple aliases including Jimlan, Layan, Ly, Totoy, Yanyan, Naldo, and Yaksel, is facing a string of serious charges. These include three counts of rebellion, violations of crimes against international law, genocide, and other crimes against humanity. He is also charged with three counts of murder, two counts of frustrated murder, as well as robbery and theft.
Police authorities confirmed that warrants of arrest were served against dela Cruz at Police Station 2 located on Osmeña Boulevard, Barangay Sambag 1, Cebu City.
"Through the efforts of RIU7 (Regional Intelligence Unit), we facilitated his voluntary surrender for the said crimes," a police officer said.
Dela Cruz, a 57-year-old Filipino male, is married. The warrants of arrest were issued by RTC Branch 63 of Bayawan City, RTC Branch 64 of Guihulngan, and RTC Branch 38 of Dumaguete City, all in Negros Oriental. — / FPL (FREEMAN)
