Bogo City police to compare LBC outlets’ camera footages

Ria Mae Y. Booc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Bogo City police will be comparing recordings of closed-circuit television cameras in LBC remittance  outlets in the cities of Cebu and Mandaue that were also robbed recently with that of LBC-Bogo to determine if they have the same culprits.

This, as the police complained that sluggish response on the part of  LBC-Bogo has affected their investigation.

“Nadugay mi ug gamay tungod kay mag-agad pa kuno sila sa ilang higher office (We were delayed a bit because they said they have to get permission from higher office first before we could get the original footage).  Among gibuhat kay gi-video-han na lang namo ang ilang nakuha pero original document wala gyud (We had to resort to filming the footage while it was being shown to us),” said Chief  Insp. Hermano Mallari, Bogo City police chief.

He said he was hopeful that they could determine how the robbers executed the crime by looking at the footages.

While inside job was a possibility in the LBC-Bogo robbery, Mallari said it is the least of  their concerns, saying the robbers appeared to be seasoned in doing the crime.

“Bisan man gud ang tapad nga Palawan (remittance center) wala nakamatikod nga naay tulis sa LBC nga tapad ra gyud…diha na sila nakahibalo nga namiya na unya wala pa gyud ga-bonnet (Even the nearby establishment did not notice anything amiss. It only knew after the robbery, as the perpetrators  they did not even conceal their faces),” Mallari said.

He reiterated that LBC branches and other financial establishments should not only rely on CCTV cameras to deter lawless elements but should also hire security guards.

The LBC in Barangay Libertad, Bogo City was the third outlet robbed within the month after the outlets in Barangay Tabok, Mandaue City and in Barangay San Nicolas Proper, Cebu City.

Four men, one of  them armed with a .38 revolver, entered the LBC-Bogo and pretended to be customers before declaring a holdup. They carted away P70,000, a mobile phone worth P7,000, and a pocket WiFi owned by one of the employees.

The robber fled on board two Honda XRM motorcycles, both without license plates, towards northern Cebu.

The police are currently doing follow-up operations to establish the identities of the four men.  (FREEMAN)
