CEBU, Philippines - A dismissed police officer was arrested by elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) - 7 for murder a case Thursday night at Barangay Labangon, Cebu City.
PO1 Alejandro “Humba” Desuyo, 37, of A. Lopez Extension, was arrested while playing basketball with his neighbors at around 9:30 p.m.
Arresting officers said Desuyo immediately noticed the presence of policemen and fled towards the interior portion of the area.
Senior Insp. Delfin Bontuyan, one of the arresting officers, was injured in the stomach during the pursuit.
CIDG-7 Director Jose Pante said Desuyo was placed under surveillance for over two weeks after they received a tip from a member of the Community Intelligence System (CIS).
The operation was through an arrest warrant issued by Judge Concordio Baguio of Regional Trial Court Branch 4 of Iligan City, Lanao Del Norte, for murder in February 22, 2012.
Pante said Desuyo was previously assigned at the Mambaling Police Station in Cebu City before he was transferred to Police Regional Office - 11 for his alleged involvement in illegal drugs and gambling.
The murder incident happened in Iligan City although the CIDG 7 has no further details of the case. Desuyo stopped reporting for work after the incident, which resulted in his dismissal from service in December last year.
“Naga AWOL (Absence without Leave) sa PRO-11 at bumalik sa Cebu City pakatapos nang nangyari,” Pante said.
Desuyo is currently detained at the CIDG-7 stockade. He denied an interview yesterday. He is set to be transported back to Iligan City on Monday.
The policemen’s intensified campaign in going after wanted persons is part of the ten-point agenda of PNP Chief Nicanor Bartolome. (FREEMAN)
