CEBU, Philippines - A student was killed and a coal miner was injured in separate shooting incidents in the cities of Cebu and Danao yesterday.
In Cebu City, a student of the alternative learning system was shot dead while buying a kilo of mango in Barangay Punta Princesa shortly after midday.
Daryl Porquido, 18, died of a gunshot wound in the left temple. The bullet exited his nape.
No one could identify the gunman who fled on foot.
SPO1 Victor Ruel Ayuman, investigator of the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office, said Porquido was at a fruit stand buying a kilo of mango when the gunman appeared.
A witness, Nilo Daclan, 27 and mango vendor, said the gunman asked him if he knew a certain “Dario” but when he answered he did not know the person, a gunfire rang out.
In another incident, a coal miner was injured after he was shot by a still unidentified gunman early morning in Barangay Lawaan, Danao City.
Juanito Hermoso Oncenes, 47, was wounded in the lower back, the bullet exiting in his abdomen. He was rushed to the Danao City District Hospital and later referred to the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.
PO2 Marlon Remollo, Danao City police investigator, said Oncenes was sleeping inside his shanty when shot. (FREEMAN)
