CEBU, Philippines - Mayor Michael Rama has introduced his cousin, talent manager Annabelle Rama to barangay officials in a luncheon meeting yesterday.
She said it was her first time to be introduced to barangay officials.
But her final decision to run for Congress will be dependent on the results of a survey.
Mayor Rama has invited Annabelle to run as representative of Cebu City’s North District.
“It all depends on the Cebuanos. If they want me to run, I have no problem with that,” Annabelle said.
She admitted that there is a survey being conducted in Cebu City’s North district but she refused to reveal who commissioned it.
But she said she has been receiving a lot of text messages, calls and tweets from north district residents encouraging her to run to bring something new to the district.
Present during yesterday’s lunch were Anabelle’s brother and Basak San Nicolas Barangay Captain George Rama, Acting Talamban Barangay Captain Ronald Caminade, Mabini Barangay Captain Rey Oybenes and Kasambagan first councilor George Chang.
Councilor Jose Daluz III and some city hall employees were also there.
Mayor Rama said he will introduce Anabelle to more barangay officials soon.
“She has to be introduced because she is one of my probable candidates,” the mayor said.
But Annabelle will not be attending pulong-pulongs yet.
She was in Cebu yesterday to thank the Sto. Niño that she had a safe trip from the US and that the arrest warrant for her libel case has been lifted.
Annabelle said her immediate family and relatives have given her the blessing to run.
“But I’m still praying for George’s approval,” she said.
George said he is still not convinced to let Annabelle run because of the trouble politics may bring.
But he said Annabelle is a worthy candidate as she has become what she is now because of hard work.
Annabelle brushed off the comments downplaying her ability to become a public servant.– /MBG (FREEMAN)
