Cop's car kills female criminology student

CEBU, Philippines - A female criminology student was killed after she was hit by a vehicle driven by a policeman on Borbajo Street, Barangay Talamban, Cebu City yesterday dawn.

Sheobe Salazar Dela Sala, 23, of the said place, died on the spot after she was hit by the vehicle driven by SPO1 Marcelo Querubin of Police Regional Office -7.

SPO4 Ramon Budiongan, Cebu City traffic investigator, said that Dela Sala was standing on the side of the road when hit by the suspect's multicab, bearing plate number GTC-226.

Querubin, however, claimed that the victim, a student of the University of Cebu, suddenly crossed the road.

The victim's brother, Roderick, said that his sister was only standing on the side of the road waiting for a ride to buy dinner for the family when Querubin's vehicle hit her.

Budiongan, however, said that the Querubin lost control of his car.

Querubin, who was tested negative of liquor when he was brought by the police to Cebu City Medical Center, admitted that the incident was his fault and promised pay for the victim's burial.

He was brought yesterday to Chong Hua Hospital for treatment of abrasions he sustained when his vehicle reportedly tipped on one side during the incident.

The police are still waiting if the victim's relatives decide to file charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide against the suspect.  (FREEMAN)
