Buenafe: Zero crime during boxing match

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Police Office recorded no crime yesterday during the fight of the Filipino boxing sensation Manny Pacquiao against one of his toughest Mexican opponents Juan Manuel Marquez.

CCPO director Sr. Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe described the peace and order situation of the city yesterday as “very peaceful” despite a shooting incident in Barangay Sambag few minutes before the fight started.

“Ang mga kalsada natin, dyutay ra nga mga vehicles ang gadagan. Mingaw kaayo. Wala sa’y robbery na na-report,” he said.

Buenafe said that he deployed policemen in major streets, hotels, restaurants and other areas where people converge to watch the live telecast of the fight through the pay-per-view even if zero criminality was anticipated.

Meanwhile, Byron Garcia is facing another controversy for removing a dish-antenna of Cignal Cable mounted at the clubhouse of Corona Del Mar Subdivision in Talisay City. The antenna would have been used to provide the residents of the subdivision a free live telecast of the Pacquiao-Marquez fight yesterday. The free live telecast was provided by Filinvest Land Incorporated, the developer of the subdivision.

However, Garcia together with his three bodyguards removed the dish-antenna last Saturday evening claiming that the installation was unauthorized because he was not informed.

Garcia said that as president of the homeowners, his permission should have been sought first.

“Akong reklamo nganong gibutang ngadto sa clubhouse unya wala mananghid unya nagbarina-barina sa concrete,” Garcia told The FREEMAN over the phone.Antonio Lopez, 40, subdivision administrator of Filinvest Land Incorporation, reported the incident to the Ta-lisay City Police Station.

According to Lopez, the Filinvest wanted the residents of the subdivision to watch the Pacquiao-Marquez fight at the clubhouse for free. Garcia explained that the clubhouse is not the property of the developer but of the homeowners association.

Garcia also figured in another controversy last September when he allegedly brandished an AK-47 assault riffle in front of his American neighbor, Wayne Morris, 56.

Garcia had an argument with Morris after he removed a road barrier in front of the latter’s house. The misunderstanding was settled amicably in the barangay. — (FREEMAN)
