CEBU, Philippines - A former barangay treasurer of Calamba was charged with two counts of malversation of public funds after she allegedly failed to account over P10,000 barangay funds.
The Office of the Ombudsman Visayas indicted Amparo Barrera after finding probable cause that she has misappropriated a total of P10,870 in 2006 and 2008.
Graft investigator Eleanor Tayad has recommended P50,000 bail for Barrera’s temporary liberty.
The case stemmed from Barrera’s failure to account for the P10,000 cash advance in October 2006 and P870 for December 2008.
The anti-graft office ruled that Barrera’s failure to account for the funds constitute a “prima facie evidence that she has put such missing funds to personal use.”
The accused has denied the charges saying she did not even received a demand letter from the Commission on Audit to account for the alleged missing funds. (FREEMAN)
